The research activity explores the use of electronics for medicine and in particular for robotic rehabilitation.
Roborth is a biomedical device for the rehabilitation of the superior limbs and for assisting their motion.
It is an orthesis for the elbow articulation, motorized and electronically controlled, an exoskeletal device that can be programmed and remotely controlled to move the elbow articulation for medical purposes.
Its control system uses position, pressure and myoelectric sensors placed on the patient’s biceps and triceps, in order to detect even a weak myoelectric activity, and to elaborate a motion control action.
The prototype use a light alloy nutating gearbox (Nugear), designed for space application, whit high overload tolerance.
New features can be added, in order to setup a device capable to help even healthy people to perform their working activities.
– Easy to program, allowing to select several rehabilitation functions or enter control parameters for different pathologies.
– Controlled through Android SmartPhone; Bluetooth and Wifi links available.
– Storing and transmission of operative data for monitoring purposes of the patient’s rehabilitation activities are available to the medical staff.
– A display is also present on the device to allow reading of the operative information.
– High robustness and tolerance to overloads.
– Its features and functional programs have been studied along with a team of medical specialists, orthopedics, physiatrists, neurologists and physiotherapis.
